1st Forum: Workin' It in Europe and the USA

On October 21, between 2-5 pm Kay Ngee Tan Architects Gallery successfully hosted the first in its series of forums and workshops on art and photography. This forum coincided with an exhibition on the making Tay Kay Chin’s first book, Panoramic Singapore, which was launched in the gallery a few weeks ago.

About the forum:

Three local photographers – Ernest Goh, Sherman Ong, and Tan Ngiap Heng speak about their recent stints in the USA and Europe, and the impact they have had on their work.

Ernest Goh discusses his participation in the Visa Pour L’Image International Photojournalism Festival in Perpignan, France. Ernest has taken part in the renowned Missouri Photo Workshop in the USA and the Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers organized by the Asia-Europe Foundation and World Press Photo in 2003.

Tan Ngiap Heng talks about his experience working for the photographer Paul Elledge in Chicago. Ngiap Heng attended the Santa Fe Workshops in New Mexico and the Toscana Photographic Workshop in Italy, where he studied with Paul Elledge and Bob Sacha.

Sherman Ong reports from the 2006 Noorderlicht Photofestival in the Netherlands, where he is currently exhibiting his work in a group show entitled Another Asia: Photography from South and Southeast Asia. Sherman has participated in workshops with Beat Presser, Massimo Vitali, Axel Hutte, and Luis Gonzales Palma.
